Sport(s) Played: Volleyball
Q1: Why did you choose the sport(s) that you play?
Volleyball wasn’t my first passion when it came to sports, but once I joined to scope out the different sports, I immediately fell in love with it. I’ve been playing for 6 years now!
Q2: What is your favorite Madeira sports memory?
My favorite memory is the” kidnapping” that occurs at the start of every season. It’s always such a great team experience and a good way to ignite the new incoming players. Countless, unforgettable memories were made those nights.
Q3: How do you get motivated to practice each and every day?
Volleyball, and sports in general, can become very repetitive, but I take it upon myself to create a routine and set higher expectations in order to strive for better each and every practice.
Q4: What super power do you wish you had and how would you use it?
I ultimately wish I had the power to stop time. I think this can be very useful as I would use this to soak up more time with others, study a little longer, sleep in more, and slow down the pace of growing up.
Q5: Which athlete(s) would you like to have dinner with and what would you talk about?
I would have dinner with Munenori Kawasaki and Shaquille O’Neal. I would talk about funny things with them because I think they have really funny personalities.
Q6: What makes a great teammate?
I think that a great teammate had the ability to have fun. High school sports come with a lot of stress and pressure, but through and through, players should enjoy the games and experiences while they last.
Q7: What is on your pre-game playlist?
My pregame playlist varies with a lot of Rhianna, Kendrick Lamar, Leon Bridges, Kanye West, Chappell Roan, 21 Savage, and SZA.
Q8: What is the funniest thing that you have seen or happened to you in a practice or game?
As bad as it sounds, I think the funniest things are when people spike the ball right into the opposing sides face and body. It is a very rare occurrence, but when it happens, it’s always a good laugh.
Q9: What is next after you graduate?
I plan to go into the science field in college in order to pursue my dream of becoming a dentist–either going into dentistry or orthodontics.
Q10: What advice would you give an 8th grade athlete as they move on to high school sports?
High school sports were perceived as very scary, daunting, and challenging in 8th grade; however, once I finally got to experience the environment and energy that these sports brought forth, I ended up really enjoying playing sports. I would say not to be scared of the challenges and pressure that these sports bring, rather embrace it all and enjoy it while it lasts.
