Sport(s) Played: Track, Cross Country, Swimming & (out of school) Triathlon

Q1: Why did you choose the sport(s) that you play? Q2: What is your favorite Madeira sports memory? Q3: How do you get motivated to practice each and every day? Q4: What is your favorite pre-game meal and why do you eat that? Q5: Which athlete do you admire most and why? Q6: What makes a great teammate? Q7: What is on your pre-game playlist? Q8: What is the funniest thing that you have seen or happened to you in a practice or game? Q9: What is next after you graduate? Q10: What advice would you give an 8th grade athlete as they move on to high school sports?
Ever since I was little, swimming has been a part of my life. As for running, I didn’t pick it up until high school, where I was able to test my skills on the course. Triathlon is a whole different beast. Combining 3 different sports, it trains not only your body but your mind as well. I use sports in my life to grow as an athlete and as an individual.

One of my favorite Madeira sports memories was during my senior year swim season at districts. Coach Brad loves to dress for the occasion, and he sure did for this meet.

To me, it’s not the athletes who have the motivation that succeeds, it’s the athletes who have the discipline. When I go to train each day, no matter how I am feeling, I put in the best effort I can for that session.

My favorite pre-race meal is probably Toast w/Peanut butter and honey. It tastes good and provides me with slow-burn carbs for the entirety of my races.

I admire athletes who enjoy their sport while also dominating their own personal improvement. If you are at the top, but don’t enjoy what you do, what is the point? I love the athletes who are willing to put in the work, and enjoy the journey. Some names include: Eliud Kipchoge, Steve Prefontaine, Hayden Wilde and Alex Yee.

The best teammates in my opinion are the ones who can be the best supporters, but can also be your biggest competition.

This definitely depends. Before shorter races, definitely enjoy some upbeat music, Mac Demarco or something of the sort. But most of the time, I enjoy feeling the atmosphere of the race: The announcing of previous races, watching others compete, watching sprint finishes of the athletes before me, it all gets me fired up.

Not sure.

I plan to attend Miami University!

Find the sport that makes you enjoy going to practice every day, that is where you are meant to be. Yes, there are always going to be tough days and tough races, but getting through those days is what makes you a stronger athlete.
