Sport(s) Played: Golf and Track

Q1: Why did you choose the sport that you play?
I wanted to be on a team with all my friends, but I didn’t love the idea of sprinting or distance.

Q2: What is your favorite Madeira sports memory?
Every van ride to track meets or golf matches.

Q3: How do you get motivated to practice every day?
I love getting to spend time with my teammates, and keeping a fun environment allows me to always be looking forward to practice.

Q4: Do you have any pre-game rituals or traditions?
I always tape my hand the same way when I throw weight or hammer, and I always use the same disc for my competition throws.

Q5: Who’s your favorite athlete you look up to?
My favorite athlete I look up to is Valarie Allman because not only does she have the current discus world record, but she also doesn’t fit the normal “thrower” stereotypes.

Q6: What makes a great teammate?
A great teammate to me is someone who is able to keep practice fun while still being focused and productive. They should be able to both be coached and coach others in a positive way when needed.

Q7: What is on your pre-game playlist?
A song on my pre game playlist is Miami by Will Smith.

Q8: What is the funniest thing you’ve seen or had happen to you in a practice or game?
At practice last year we had an athlete throwing discus who threw so far right that it landed in the turfed area outside of the weight room and slid almost into the garage door where I was standing talking to our sprints coach (no one was injured).

Q9: What are your plans after you graduate?
Next year I plan on attending West Point to study Mechanical Engineering and be a part of their Division 1 track and field team.

Q10: What advice would you give an 8th-grade athlete as they move on to high school sports?
Advice I would give an 8th grader as they move onto high school sports is to try everything. You never know what sport may click for you.
